When she was initially inspired by the shadows she observed on the grass of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out to develop a technique which didn't depict an object as a two-dimensional image. The subject becomes a replica that is its own with the canvas carrying its own interpretation painted by the object. This is especially true in the case of a living thing or food item, such as fruit or people. Alexa's painting style is ephemeral, and the only thing left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. As the photographic and painting techniques are coordinated so closely it creates the trompe-l'oeil effect that creates the illusion of 3D appears only at specific locations, like the area around the eyes and the hair. Meade sometimes integrates her paintings in the 3D world around her. They can interact in the self-created world. The lines between performance, installation, photography and painting are thus dissolved.
